Artist's Comments

Ive met Andre twice, the first time, he was merrily singing and playing "Sugar Mountain" - Neil Young.. and i snapped a few shots.. unfortunatly, due to my lack of judgement, i messed them up.. shooting a joyfully moving man at 1/60, f8?.. dont think so.. Anyways.. Was out yesterday (nov 21 06) with and was telling her about him, so we headed up granville hoping he was there.. He was singing "Wild World" by Yusaf Islam, who to me, will always be known as Cat stevens ;) (i cant remember where that line was from, simpsons i think)

Leslie recognised the name right away, i didn't.. i was suprised at her musical knowledge, but i already knew she had great taste..

I didnt have enough money to buy a CD, but gave him what i had in my pocket.. $3.50 or so.. When we came back down Granville, he was gone, replaced by a young lady with a sign and a blanket :( .. poor girl

I hope to run into andre again one day...

If you want to hear, and see him, Granville and Georgia.. but if you take his picture, give him some change.. I dont think he would mind either way, but it sure cant hurt :)

Horribly intrusive watermarks are tacky. If you're concerned about people stealing your photos, don't post them on the internet.

Photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event. (HCB)

Hehe, I used to do that alot... When I have 2 or more GREAT things coming, I always wait at least a day so people can fully appreciate both :)

How is it that some people who have so little experience the most joy? Maybe their lives are less complex, or they've learned to let go of everything because they have nothing to hang onto.

 your slow shutterspeed got this framed up just nice... His hands strumming the guitar made the picture felt alive - not to mention i'm listening to some acoustic jazz guitar on my iPod that helped with the mood....

the sign on his right by the floor also gave a stronger sense to the feel of this picture. except for his water tumbler by his feet that's distracting... coz that stuff in my country here's worth more than RM$20! (US$6)...

too much empty space on the right though, which i might wanna shoot on vertical if i were there...

his foot was 'stepping' to the beat too.. and yeah, i agree with the vertical.. but i kinda was going for the empty space, as in another life, many people might have been crowded around the 'rockstar' .. but here, theres maybe a few nice civilians stopping for no more than a minuite to hear his stories..

no crowds.. no fame.. which he deserves..

are you saying that the water bottle is expensive? if you seen the shape it was in, and the look of the water, you would think it was grabbed out of the rubbish bins..

i just love the way he plays guitar, one ear to the side, as if being closer to the music makes him further away from his situation.. bringing him into a world without money.. only music
